Harry Potter/DBZ

"It's got balls of power of a thousand moons"

submission: Harry Potter/DBZ
date: September 17, 2001

Superb!
The parody of DBZ at the beginning was wonderful- that show has too much talking and not enough fighting.... Goku definitely needs to shut the hell up.
I read some previous comments and it looks like the author is adding a feature to start the movie from the shut up Goku selection menu.
If it isn't too much trouble, it'd be cool if he could add a bit more violence to those scenes....
I can't stand Goku at all....

The voice acting in this entry was great even though it was hard to understand Goku at times (which isn't important because he's supposed to shut the hell up anyway) and I like the background music that played for the duration of the clip....

The rewinding of the movie was a neat effect as well.

The strength of this clip comes from the fact that a bunch of random wacky events were strung together in such a way that it didn't make any sense even though it was in the context of Harry's magic show....

I don't think I know what I'm taking about...

But I'm going to watch it again.

"Maybe I did, maybe I didn't, I'll go find out"

Author's Response:

Thanks actually right after you posted this we added the new option at the end of the movie. As for the added violence we won't do that not to this cartoon any how but we have a few others in the works that should meet that need:) thanks for the review

BBS Shenanigans part 1!

"Twas a good romp"

date: September 14, 2001

Ah... EviLDoG's sick and twisted ways captured in a flash medium for all to see!

It does it's job and it's evident that the author can make something more elaborate in the future.

As I promised...

Infantry Skirmish

"Short Skirmish of Solace"

submission: Infantry Skirmish
date: July 15, 2001

This was a fun light hearted entry with action reminiscent of multiple video games.

No plot but still a jocose string of scenes put together.

For a first entry- this was quite impressive.

The bright colours added to the cartoony action and violence.

With a plot and a more focused effort, I am sure the author could come up with some killer material in the future.

I'd give this a 6 but I'm in a good mood so it gets a 7.

: )

Newgrounds Suggestion

"It's not as bad as everyone says."

date: July 2, 2001

I really don't think this entry is as bad as the other reviews say.
It has a cute concept.

Compared too all the Britney Spears Fucks garbage that is on the portal this entry is great.

The author had an opinion and expressed it.

Most of the people who reviewed it took it personally and too seriously and had to express their teenage angst by making fun of the author of this entry.

I don't think the author should take the reviews too harshly and continue to goof around in flash.

This entry needs music.
It auto-rewinds so it doesn't need a replay button.

I think the author should be proud it's turd of the week.

submission: icantsleeep

I don't know why I enjoyed this entry.
It wasn't trying to be witty and it didn't have a purpose.... but it was funny and I felt like I was on drugs. I enjoyed this a lot more than the author's HappyLand series. What made me laugh harder was all the goofy messages laced in the clip.

The false ending was great too.

I really loved the ability to stop the clip, run it backward and forward.

I would've rated this entry a 7 overall but the inclusion of Mr. T's Be Somebody tape made me bump the score up to 8.

DailyDelicious Theme Song

"Is this the true end of Syren and Delicious?"

date: June 9, 2001

I have been busy lately and never had the chance to review all of the entries regarding the adventures of Syren and Delicious. I had watched all of them and enjoyed them thoroughly.
Now that I see Rob Israel has been fired, I feel compelled to write a review.
This video was downright wacky- the interplay of the colour and jerky action captured the spirit of the entire series. I could barely hear what Delicious was saying most of the time but that didn't matter. What mattered was how the singing went with the song- and it was funky damnit. It wouldn't hurt if the volume for the vocals was bumped up more though. Also, some of the animation was choppy at some parts.

Overall a great final entry.
It's "[t]ime to move on" for Rob Israel and I wish him luck in moving on to a more stable job where he is appreciated more.
Kudos to Matt Dallow as well.

I wonder if Rob got fired because Lloyd didn't like his cartoon self. : )

"someone took my HTML!!!! eeeeee!!!!"

date: June 9, 2001

I've taken a break from writing reviews for portal entries due to the amount of crap in it.
A good solid entry like this was enough to get me back into it.
The voice acting was superb- the volume was just right and the characteristics of children characters was accurately portrayed.
The sound effects were incorporated very well and the dialogue was just priceless.
There are a few parts were the sound does break up a bit- intentional or not it's a minor flaw.

The biggest flaw of this entry was the lack of a play button and a replay button at the time I viewed it.

The only other thing was the lack of credits present in the entry- it was nice to see an entry without the long list of credits but the author didn't even put his name in it!
I hope it is added in the future to prevent people from stealing this very amusing short.

BUT YOU STOLE MY JAVASCRIPT FIRST YOU WHORE!!!

FUKEMON:Benny hill!

"Captured the Benny Hill spirit."

date: April 14, 2001

This portal entry captured the spirit of Benny Hill's comedy. It was a fun clip to watch.
One minor thing that bugged me was the first scene (and other chase scenes where the same background was used) where "Fabio" chases the "Fukemon"- the background was not looped smoothly enough so the trees kept "resetting" their position.
Other small things in the clip were amusing- the Calvin Lame Jeans and the bust of Jimmy....
The final scene when the credits displayed was my favourite... poor Fukemon, he got caught!

It was funny and the important thing was that it made me laugh. What stops me from giving this a higher score are minor technical details- for example the animation in general was a little blocky- which I'm sure the author can smooth out in future entries.

Scrap Book: Mon vs. Fita

"That's a lot of class..."

date: April 12, 2001

That was a great short.
Although the "farting" sound kind of detracted from the clip, the animation and style of the clip blew me away and made up for it.

The physics in the clip (the falling of the characters etc.) were animated with shocking realism (I'm not talking about the cartoony parts where Fita hangs in the air- I'm talking about the movement of the characters) It felt very organic and real. When Fita is falling between the buildings you can almost feel the heat generated from her feet sliding down the walls of the building.

The humour was also great- from the guns rolling out to the "music" starting when the walkman comes on screen to the leg of the corpse moving to fit the chalk outline.

This was non-stop action with a decisive climax.
The ending music was a little anti-climatic though- the hanging drum roll leaves much to be desired for.

So what was wrong with the clip that kept me from giving it a 10?

IT'S TOO SHORT!

I hope the author makes more soon!
I'm hoping that this just the 2nd of many Scrap Book series to come.
Also, check out Damian Martin's Tana series- great stuff there too.

Author's Response:

Wow, bud. Thanks. Do you do this for a living?

The message was not relevant to the content of the movie.

I usually write longer reviews but being Turd of the Week says more than anything I could possible fit in this space.
